Sales tax, figured, filed and paid. Everywhere you sell.

The right tax on every sale for the exact address, in every US state and 130+ countries. We watch where you owe, register you, and file and pay every return. Nonprofits send donors receipts for tax time, too.

Fern & Field Coffee ships two bags of whole bean coffee, $36.00, and a stoneware mug, $24.00, to Austin, Texas. Texas treats the coffee as groceries, so it isn't taxed. The mug is taxed at 8.25%: Texas 6.25%, the City of Austin 1% and Capital Metro 1%, $1.98 in all, for a total of $61.98. The tax is collected for Texas. Then Colorado's sales cross its $100,000 threshold on September 12 and Cedar registers the business there. The September Texas return, $1,284.40, and the UK's Q3 VAT return, £3,120.00, are filed and paid.

Every rate, every threshold, every exemption.

Worked out on each sale, watched everywhere you sell, and kept for the day anyone asks.

Exact to the address

States, counties, cities and special districts each set their own rate. We find every one that applies to the exact address, not just the ZIP code, and keep up as they change.

What you sell sets the rate

Every product is sorted into its tax category, and tax experts approve the rules behind it, so a bag of beans and a mug are each taxed the way the state says.

The day you cross, we know

Every state and country sets its own threshold. We track your sales against each one every day, tell you the date you crossed, and register you there.

Exempt customers, handled

Schools, nonprofits and resellers upload their exemption certificate at checkout. We verify it, take the tax off, keep it on file for audits and remind them before it expires.

Questions about Tax.

Anything else? Book a call with us.

Which taxes and countries do you cover?

Sales tax in every US state that has one, and VAT and GST in 130+ countries.

Do you file and pay the returns?

Yes. We register you, then file every return and pay it on time, in every state and country where you're registered. Nobody on your team logs in to a tax portal.

How do we know where we owe?

Each state and country sets a threshold, usually a level of sales or a number of orders. We track your sales against every one each day. When you cross one, we tell you the date and register you there.

Is software taxed?

In some states and most countries, and the rules differ for downloads, subscriptions and services. We apply the rule for wherever your customer is.

We're a nonprofit. Do we charge sales tax?

Often on what you sell, like merchandise or event tickets, depending on the state. Donations aren't taxed, so we tax the sales and leave the gifts alone.

How do donation receipts work?

Once we confirm your tax-exempt status with the IRS, every gift gets a receipt by email in your name, with what the IRS asks for: your name and tax ID, the amount and date, and whether the donor got anything in return and what it was worth. Each January, every donor gets a statement of their year's giving.

We use Stripe Tax, TaxJar or Avalara. Can we switch?

Yes. We take over the registrations you already have and file from the next period on.

Is this tax advice?

No. We calculate, collect, file and pay under each place's rules. For advice about your business, talk to your accountant or tax adviser.
